Do you mean that when clicking on the arrow to get out of the authoring window by saving for later after the validation window appears, it prevents the changes from being saved?
Could you please maybe illustrate the use case with screenshots for us to better understand the behavior you are describing?

We have configured an editor for a complicated record structure.
The record structure uses validation to display errors inline. This works correctly.
How do we make "Save for Later" work the same way?
Flow:
1. user edits the record.
2. user saves.
3. validator shows one or more errors.
4. user hits the <- arrow (above the form).
5. user selects "Save for Later".
6. user navigates away.
7. user returns.
Issue: The user can no longer see the edits that they "Saved for Later".
We want users to have a consistent experience when they save an edit for later. Returning should bring them back to where they were. We know that the SA tables save the "Saved for Later" data.
