Is it safe to clean out old logs from mta_task_def table directly in the database?

Short answer is no. Deleting from this table would result into repository inconsistencies, and could prevent xDM upgrades in the future.

The safest way to purge this table is to purge the deployment history, in the management console, as shown below

what dose MTA stand for in the prefix of table name, like mta_task_def???

I found that using the API endpoint is infinitely faster.
